TP-Link AV600 Powerline Ethernet Adapter Starter Kit - 600Mbps High-Speed, Gigabit Ports, Plug & Play, Energy Saving (TL-PA6010KIT) for Home Office & Gaming Network Expansion

I bought the TP-LINK TL-PA6010KIT AV600 Powerline adapter pair recently to replace my existing Wireless extender setup, and it has improved my network speeds by an impressive amount.Pros:- Easy to setup and pair the 2 adapters. No additional setup required on any of the devices connecting to these adapters. The adapters form a bridge to the network they're connected to.- Works almost close and above to the rated bandwidth. Other models did not have Gigabit ports on them.- Really small and compact in size, and plugs easily in either of the sockets of a standard double socket wall outlet. Also can be plugged both upright or facing downwards without any issues.- The LEDs are good indicator of the status and are not too big or bright to cause a significant distraction (like the Cable Modem lights on my Motorola modem for instance)Cons:- For the price, a pass-through electrical socket would have been good to have- Again the price could have been cheaper (If you are happy with 100 Mbps bandwidth, choose the AV200 or AV500 models instead). I just wanted the maximum bandwidth possible and hence went for this one.Technical details with some numbers:============================My setup:2 Linksys E2000 routers running Tomato. The primary E2000 router in the living room connects to the Cable Modem for internet. The secondary E2000 router is in my bedroom. I have 2 PCs each connected using Gigabit ports to each of the routers.My old Setup:I was running the second router (in my living room) in Wireless Bridge mode (as I wanted to just extend the wired network but not wireless). The channel chosen was a 40 MHz channel in Wireless-N 300 Mbps mode and the channel was not in use by any nearby wireless units. The 2 E2000s are less than 15ft apart from each other. The bandwidth between the 2 PCs measured using iperf3:TCP:20 - 40 Mbits/secUDP:60 - 70 Mbits/secMy new setup with the TP-LINK AV600 adapters:I replaced the wireless bridge with the 2 powerline adapters and making the second E2000 router act merely as a managed switch. These are my test results using iperf3:UDP:830 - 880 Mbits/sec on the client side560 - 610 Mbit/sec on the server sideTCP:170 - 200 Mbits/sec on both the sidesI was surprised to see almost and above rated UDP bandwidth and really good TCP bandwith as well. The only better solution would be run a Cat5e or Cat6 ethernet cable, but since you cannot run them, you end up buying one of these powerline adapters.Some observations==============- Like everyone else already mentioned, using these adapters in a surge protector brings down the bandwidth significantly. I got roughly only half the bandwidth compared to when I plugged these directly in the wall outlets.- Ensure the devices (routers, PCs) actually have Gigabit ports on them, otherwise you're not utilizing this device to the full potential. If your device does not have Gigabit port, get the AV200 or AV500 models which have a 100 Mbps port instead and are good value for the money
